Dental Implants in Asheville
Dental implants are small, titanium posts that are screwed into the jawbone to mimic a tooth’s roots. Once they’ve been placed, our dentists can mount a replacement tooth or bridge onto the post to fill the gap of a missing tooth.
Unlike dentures, dental implants cannot come loose.
Dental implants benefit general oral health as well, since they do not need to be anchored to other teeth like bridges do. Because the implants have fused to the bone, they are consistently stable. Implants or bridges mounted to implants won’t shift or slip in your mouth, which is especially important while eating and speaking. The fastened fit of an implant or bridges mounted to an implant aid in making the new teeth feel more natural.
The two types of implants that we offer include:
- Endosteal implants – which are surgically implanted into the jawbone. After the surrounding gum tissue has healed, a second surgery is required to connect a post to the implant. Afterwards, an artificial tooth is attached to each post individually, or grouped on a bridge.
- Subperiosteal implants – which consist of a metal frame fitted just below the gum tissue onto the jawbone. During the gum’s healing process, the frame becomes fused to the bone. Posts are then attached to the frame and protrude through the gum. Artificial teeth are then mounted to the posts.
It’s important that you have healthy gums and adequate bone structure to receive dental implants. It’s also important that you commit to keeping these structure healthy once they’re in place. Long-term success depends on meticulous oral hygiene and regular visits with your doctor after the implants are in place.
Dental implants can be costly compared to some other alternatives, but they are worth it for patients who don’t want to deal with the discomfort of dentures or bridges. Speak to our team about payment options and insurance coverage when you come in for a complimentary consultation.
